A+ Series® Air Coolers - Industrial Air Coolers - A+C
High-Static-Pressure Industrial Evaporator
Designed for industrial refrigeration applications requiring ducted air distribution, higher static pressure, and flexible unit placement, Colmac Coil A+C Air Coolers combine a custom-engineered fin-and-tube heat exchanger with centrifugal fan technology.
The A+C can be floor mounted or ceiling hung and installed either directly within the refrigerated space or outside the room. Front- and top-discharge arrangements allow the unit to integrate with ductwork, diffusers, air socks, filtration, and other air-distribution systems.
Each A+C is engineered around the refrigeration load, required airflow, external static pressure, duct arrangement, working fluid, materials of construction, and installation requirements of the application.
Unlike free-discharge air coolers, the A+C uses centrifugal fans to overcome the added resistance associated with ductwork and air-distribution components.
This makes the A+C an ideal solution when conditioned air must be moved through ducts, filters, diffusers, air socks, or other higher-resistance systems before reaching the refrigerated space.
Key Benefits
Centrifugal fan design for higher-static-pressure applications
Approximately 1–3 in. w.g. static-pressure capability
Designed for ducted air-distribution systems
Floor-mounted or ceiling-hung configurations
Can be installed inside or outside the refrigerated space
Front- or top-discharge arrangements
Variable-speed operation available
Lower blade-pass noise characteristics than typical axial fan systems
Service access for motors and coil surfaces
Multiple hygienic and stainless steel construction options
Custom engineered for application-specific refrigeration and airflow requirements
A+C Centrifugal vs. Axial Fan Air Coolers
The correct fan technology depends on how air needs to move through the application.
A+C Centrifugal Fan
Best Suited for
Ducted air distribution
Static pressure
Approximately 1-3 in. w.g.
Air distribution
Ducts, diffusers, air socks and filters
Sound characteristics Unit construction
Deeper, heavier fan/plenum arrangement
Maintenance
Drive components require routine service
Axial Fan Air Cooler
Best Suited for
Free discharge into the room
Static pressure
Lower-static-pressure applications
Air distribution
Direct high-velocity air throw
Sound characteristics Unit construction
Higher blade-tip noise
Maintenance
Typically fewer drive components
Choose the A+C When:
Ducts or diffusers require higher static pressure
Air must pass through filters or air-distribution devices
A ducted air-distribution system is preferred
Equipment needs to be located outside the refrigerated room
Lower fan blade-pass noise is an important consideration
